A cidade toma a forma barroca
The Baroque consolidated in the 18th century, when Rio became a central city for the export of gold discovered in the previous century. Through here, the troops arriving from the Minas circulated, and, with them, the economic sectors of supply and foreign trade grew. The city received the winds of the changes occurring in Europe, and baroque religiosity began to impose itself on the urbanity, with the proliferation of churches and convents. The landscape, framed by Guanabara Bay like a large avenue, featured the presence of the church towers.
