The Virtual Museum is one of the main pillars of Rio Memórias, acting as a digital platform of free access to the history of Rio de Janeiro. More than an online collection, it is a living space that integrates different times, territories, and narratives, connecting urban memory, research, and education.

The virtual museum is composed of thematic galleries, rooms and memories. Each gallery features specialized curation that addresses the city's formation from multiple angles. The Museu Virtual also connects to other actions of Rio Memórias — such as the Podcast series, the Aqui tem Memória project (signs with QR codes scattered throughout the city) and the book Rio Memórias – Volume 1 | História, distributed free of charge to public schools — expanding the reach of the galleries beyond the digital environment.
