The changes in ways of building and living, the key players in the transformation of urban space, and the different strategies for making Rio de Janeiro a healthier city are the guiding threads of this journey through Rio, a city in transformation.

The history of Rio de Janeiro is full of tensions that involved the struggle for housing. Since the 19th century, the drama of the housing crisis has been part of life in the city. "Unexplained" fires, summary removals, and real estate speculation were and are realities in the lives of those who, due to the neglect of those who hold power, were forced to live in the hills and tenements. In the 20th century, some initiatives sought to solve part of the housing issues. The problem is that these solutions did not always come in a peaceful way...
