CURADORIA

Antonio Edmilson Rodrigues Martins

The Rio Operário Gallery presents a panorama of the life, work, and struggles of workers in the city of Rio de Janeiro, mainly those from the textile factories that, from the late 19th century until the 1930s, occupied the city's landscape, forming neighborhoods, influencing ways of life, adding music and poetry to the city, and marking out urban spaces that gained the status of places of memory.

From enslaved people to free workers, the strikes were carried out for diverse reasons and some stood out, producing a great impact on the city and exposing the - at times unsanitary - conditions of the world of work.
