Rio de Sons

CURADORIA

Heloisa Murgel Starling

In the city, there is sound. Rio de Janeiro is song and noise. Our ears listen to an old samba playing in a botequim, the "olha o mate" shout on the beach, the carnival block passing in the street, the helicopter overflying a community. Silence does not exist. As we walk through the streets, we are invaded by sounds and noises with which we identify ourselves and identify the city.

Quando a natureza fala

The cheerful flight of parakeets, the whistle of squirrel monkeys running over the electrical wiring. Every so often, some sounds of the fauna stand out in the city's mesh of noises, reminding us how peculiar the Carioca link between nature and urban progress is. On the beaches, the sounds also mix in a singular way: waves and voices, the tumult of people meeting the exuberant tumult of the landscape. It is a pity that all this hubbub can be interrupted by the unmistakable noise of tragedies that are the work of neglect, as occurs during summer storms.
