O Rio antes do Brasil
History does not begin with the Portuguese – Rio de Janeiro was not an empty space to be occupied. The entire coastline of Guanabara Bay was occupied by large tabas. Each taba was formed, at minimum, by four malocas (the collective house), arranged around a type of courtyard called okara and surrounded by a system of fortifications. The Portuguese initiated the war against the tupinambás, with the objective of occupying the territory and founding a settlement in March 1560.
