Bar do Jorge is an old bar located across from Praça Coronel Assunção. It's a bar that tends to get quite crowded on weekends, and the meals are always good!

Seu Jorge started his business in the 2000s, but he didn't start by opening a bar right away. He started out selling grilled chicken, that's right! If you ask some of the old residents of Praça da Harmonia, they all loved the grilled chicken that Seu Jorge made. He saw that the business became so successful that he opened his first establishment, which was located next to where his bar is located today.

From 2013/2014 onward, it moved to where it is today, where it started becoming much more successful, since it's located across from Praça da Harmonia/Praça Coronel Assunção. It was a place that, at the time, used to have many samba circles. It still does today, but not like before. There was a bounce house next to his bar and a popcorn vendor, so it was quite busy. Besides that, the meals were always good: the galeto, the feijoada. On feijoada days, the bar would get very crowded. He also sold popsicles and even had an arcade at one point. So you can imagine how packed it would get. That's how Bar do Jorge started to become more established in the area. Practically most people who have ever passed through Praça da Harmonia have seen the yellow bar there, the traditional Bar do Jorge.

Around 2019/2020 his bar ended up collapsing, and for me, who had always been used to seeing his bar open, it was very sad to walk down Harmonia and see his bar like that, but seu Jorge didn't get discouraged, he rebuilt his bar and started everything from scratch again, and today it's there, still selling. Seu Jorge isn't in good health today, but I believe that just him seeing his bar running well again is already a victory. It's a bar that was a big part of my childhood, and I believe it's still standing today because of seu Jorge, he's a man of great charisma and a really good person. Someday, stop by and have a meal, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
