Founded in 1922 by União de Marechal Hermes Futebol Clube, which had existed since 1915, the Marechal Hermes Football Stadium was installed in the surroundings of the historic Marechal train station, opened in 1913, in the neighborhood located approximately 25 kilometers from downtown.

The group interviewed a person, who said:

Sou nascido e criado aqui em Marechal, joguei e fiz parte do clube, enquanto ele ainda pertencia ao União de Marechal.

From 1920 to 1950, many clubs and small stadiums emerged in Rio's suburbs, made up of working-class people. However, with the decline of suburban football starting in the 1950s, the small stadium of Marechal Hermes, like several others, struggled to maintain its structure. 56 years after its inauguration, Botafogo Futebol e Regatas — which had lost its headquarters in General Severiano — renovated the Marechal stadium and reinaugurated it on October 22, 1978, with Botafogo winning 2-1 against Portuguesa da Ilha.

The Marechal Hermes stadium was renamed in tribute to Mané Garrincha, and the venue was the stage for some historic routs in Rio de Janeiro football. Back then (in the 1970s), the club revived the stadium with youth team training sessions, but today, the place is abandoned.
