Rio de Janeiro, May 29, 2021.
Dear Grandpa,
It doesn't matter where you are, as long as you're happy. I have so much to tell you about our lives. However, first of all, I must tell you that I miss you. I miss our conversations, I miss your stories, I miss the football tactics, back when we still played at Flamengo's youth academy. I know you wouldn't want our family to feel this way, but what can we do? We feel SAUDADE. Now, the time has come for the news, even though I'm sure you already know it all.
So, in order to start off calmly, I'll say that Flamengo won every title it competed for in 2019 and is still considered by thousands to be the best Brazilian team, maybe even the best in the world. Grandpa, it was such a celebration! The festivities reached different parts of the country, and the most important title, the "Libertadores," was dramatic. Moving on: I can't hold it in any longer, I need to tell you that I got into CEFET/RJ!! I made it!! And now I'm finishing my second year of Highway Engineering. Wow, the feeling I had when I found out was indescribable, and deep down, I know you were by my side. Rodrigo, your oldest grandson, also has some really hot news, and he's going to tell you himself.
Finally, I would like to apologize to you. I never had a good moment to say goodbye or to properly mourn. So, for the record, I leave my sincere apologies here. I love you, grandpa! It's funny how, historically, human beings have been trying to find a way to achieve eternal life, yet they claim to have never found it. Frankly, eternity has always lived within us, we are just too arrogant to access it. Fortunately, I can say that you found the way, because eternity doesn't mean material life.
Always remember that you are eternal, because you will never be forgotten. Your mark, your impact, lives on in us. I hope you're drinking a beer at some bar and listening to some good pagode from Salgueiro. Now that's the life!
With Love,
Gustavo Fonseca
P.S.: I love you!
