Rio Memórias

Students: Arthur de Moraes, Iago de Paula Martins and Maria Clara Souza da Silva Class: ADM 201

The work carried out by the students brings interviews with workers on Ipanema beach, revealing the stories and challenges of those who, on a daily basis, travel long distances — often coming from other municipalities in the Metropolitan Region — to secure their livelihood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The video sheds light on urban and territorial inequalities, exposing how socio-spatial segregation imposes tiring routes, exhausting journeys, and a routine marked by constant struggle. By giving voice to these workers, the work highlights not only the importance of the informal economy and street vending in the city's dynamics, but also lays bare the contradictions of a territory that concentrates both the symbols of the global city — geared toward tourism and leisure — and the deep marks of social exclusion. Based on these narratives, the video prompts a reflection on urban mobility, the right to the city, and the inequalities that structure Rio's urban space.
