Class: 2003 Students: George Marlon, Leandro Lima, Miguel Mendonça, Nichollas Rodrigues, and Vitor Gabriel de Oliveira
Students created a slam about education and everyday life at the school where they study, Colégio Estadual Eunice Weaver. Through the power of the word and orality, the students expressed their experiences and impressions of the school environment, showing how poetry can be a powerful tool for reflection and transformation. Check out the lyrics and audio below:
My power is the word, and that's why I tell stories! Slam! Rio Memórias!
Nothing to do with talking about teaching Nothing to do with writing poetry And to teaching and to study Today I pay tribute
As an example now I use Where I go every day My school Eunice Weaver Where learning is joy
That security is so visible when crossing each gate For only God knows what would happen to us at the same time through the streets, alleys and lanes of this big world
In this place, where the encouragement to open a book Is clearly constant Where the request to expand the mind is repeatedly pleaded Day by day, weekly But completely ignored by the students Visibly deplorable, the lack of consideration Towards a teacher, who fights traffic Van, bus, and crowded train, to come and preserve education
Some get worked up and lose their patience Demanding attention But in the end it's easier to think That I'm the one who came out wrong in this generation
Much more than a critique What's expected is that in every verse And phrase of this poem, there is awareness
To value and respect the work of others Regardless of whether they're paid for it, or whether it's their duty to do it
