Rio Memórias

The Carioca Suburbs. Loaded with stories, culture, and identities, it is the theme of the first season of the Rio Memórias web series, Memórias Cariocas.

In this episode, we focus on how the development and growth of industry, starting in the 1880s, were accompanied by the creation of worker villages. We tell the story of João Ferrer, one of the founders of Bangu Atlético Clube and a former administrator of Companhia Progresso Industrial do Brasil. We also showcase the historical heritage of Vila Operária Marechal Hermes, one of Rio's first planned neighborhoods.

The video features subtitles in Portuguese, which can be turned off.

The Memórias Cariocas Web Series is a Rio Memórias production. We are sponsored by Norsul, Kasznar Leonardos, Impulso and the Ministry of Culture through the Cultural Incentive Law, by Light S.A. and by the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy through the State Cultural Incentive Law, and by the City Hall of Rio de Janeiro, the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, Banco BTG Pactual and Elogroup through the Municipal Cultural Incentive Law – ISS Law.
