In this project, the students draft a manifesto expressing their search for improvements in the Catumbi neighborhood. Drawing on their experiences as residents and as citizens of Rio de Janeiro, they call for a territory with more visibility, respect, and public investment. The text highlights essential demands, such as basic sanitation, garbage collection, leisure areas, and better transportation options, reinforcing the desire for a more dignified and welcoming neighborhood for everyone.
As residents of Catumbi, but mainly as residents of Rio de Janeiro, we want and seek a neighborhood with more visibility, seen by the city government as an important neighborhood, a neighborhood with basic sanitation, with garbage collection, with leisure for everyone, with a good availability of transportation to various places in the state, we want and seek a neighborhood that meets all these demands.
The choice of photos was made based on our own thinking and that of many residents of our neighborhood; we chose these photos because we want the importance the neighborhood once had, a neighborhood that was recognized, respected, and frequented by important people, but mainly, we want that neighborhood today, with that same respect and name it once had.
The image below was produced with the help of artificial intelligence. This would be the dream image; the view the neighborhood's main square could have had if certain construction works had not been carried out. It is also worth noting that the "Welcome to Catumbi" sign does indeed exist and was put up to help tourists find their way during carnival, a time of great tourist movement through the area.
