Aníbal Machado, born in Sabará, led an eventful life. During his time in Belo Horizonte, he graduated in Law and worked as a professor and journalist. Still a student, he spent his free hours playing football for Atlético's team. Known as “Pingo”, he scored the first goal in the black-and-white club's history. In the city, he was part of the group of writers who created the Minas Gerais modernist movement.

In 1923, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. His house at Rua Visconde de Pirajá, nº 487, in Ipanema, was one of the most vibrant meeting points of the country's literary life for many years. At this address, the host would welcome, always on Sunday late afternoons, some of the great names in Brazilian culture and art. Over time, the residence became a landmark in the city for intellectuals and artists from the most varied fields, such as poetry, theater, cinema, painting, music, and architecture.

Among the most regular attendees were, among others, Clarice Lispector, Cecília Meireles, Tônia Carrero, Paulo Autran, Vinícius de Moraes, Niemeyer, Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Heitor dos Prazeres, and Guignard. The place was also a laboratory of ideas and attitudes that stirred the then federal capital. The atmosphere was light, cheerful, and delicate. The gatherings became famous under the name “Domingueiras do Aníbal,” taking place every week until the year of his death, on January 20, 1964.

On that occasion, Carlos Drummond de Andrade bid farewell to his friend through the pages of the
